Leadership

Guided by practical expertise and a commitment to families.

The Institute for Applied Family Education is informed by an advisory committee whose perspectives help keep its work grounded, useful, and responsive to the realities families face.

Disciplines Informing the Work

The Advisory Committee brings together perspective from multiple fields that intersect with parenting, child development, family relationships, conflict, and household well-being. Areas of advisory input include, but are not limited to, the following disciplines.

Parenting Education and Child Development

This perspective contributes practical knowledge about effective parenting, developmental stages, children’s emotional needs, caregiver leadership, household structure, and the skills parents need to create stable and responsive homes.

Conflict Resolution and Family Communication

This perspective contributes methods for reducing escalation, improving communication, clarifying disagreements, and making better decisions when trust or cooperation is limited. It helps ensure that IFAFE resources remain useful under real-world pressure rather than only under ideal conditions.

Family Therapy and Behavioral Health

This perspective contributes an understanding of family systems, attachment, emotional regulation, relational patterns, trauma-informed care, and the complex dynamics that influence how families communicate and function. It helps preserve appropriate boundaries between education and clinical treatment.

Family Law and Child-Centered Practice

This perspective contributes awareness of family-law processes and the work of attorneys, Guardians ad Litem, Parenting Coordinators, and other family-serving professionals. It helps the Institute remain attentive to role clarity, documentation, conflict dynamics, children’s best interests, and the boundary between education and legal advice.

Pediatric Nutrition and Family Wellness

This perspective broadens family education beyond communication and conflict. It contributes knowledge of children’s nutritional and developmental needs, caregiver modeling, household routines, physical well-being, and the everyday practices that help children thrive.

Practical guidance for the whole family system.
